SBVC to host Public Forum for Presidential Candidates

A public forum for the candidates under consideration for the top leadership position at San Bernardino Valley College has been scheduled for Thursday, May 2, at 9:00 a.m. in the SBVC Library Viewing Room.

Organized by the SBVC Academic Senate, the free forum is open to the public and will be streamed live on the web. The names and bios of the finalists for the position will be announced on April 30 or May 1 and posted on the SBVC website at www.valleycollege.edu.

The structure of the forums will begin with Candidate A from 9-10 a.m., followed by Candidate B from 10:30-11:30 a.m., and concluding with Candidate C from 12 – 1 p.m.  If there are fewer than three candidates, the forum will end after Candidate B.  Each candidate will have the opportunity to make opening and closing statements. All questions will come from the floor. Evaluations will be distributed after each candidate’s forum, and the results will be tabulated and shared with SBCCD Chancellor Bruce Baron on Friday, May 3.

SBCCD Provides Report Card on District Sustainability Plan

While the world celebrates Earth Day this month, San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) faculty, staff and students are participating individually and collectively to control energy use and improve the environment.

Chancellor Bruce Baron explained, “In our view, sustainability represents a balance of accommodating human needs without diminishing the productivity or health of natural systems, so that future generations are able to meet their own needs. It is our fiduciary duty to the taxpayers and our responsibility to the next generation to maximize the efficiency of our services in the most cost-effective manner that best serves our students and employees.”

SBCCD's EDCT Hosts Free Nanotechnology Technician's Training

The public is invited to attend a no-cost Nanotechnology Technician’s Training beginning on April 22 – May 22, 2013. There are still a few seats open.

These sessions are open to all incumbent workers (currently employed or self-employed). The training includes Phase I: Introduction to Nanotechnology. Phase II and Phase III consist of lectures and on-the job-training in the fundamentals of nano-materials, nano-energy and nano-medicine.

SBCCD Posts 'Student Success Scorecard'

One of the first districts in the state to do so, the SAN BERNARDINO COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT (SBCCD) announced today they have linked to the California Community College Chancellor’s Office “College Scorecard”.

“With one click of the button on our District home page (http://www.sbccd.org), an interested parent or employer, potential student, concerned community member or investigating policy maker in search of data can find completion, persistence, 30 unit and remedial information on any California Community College for the past five years, and on any slice of any cohort within that collected data, and with that information, they can evaluate the school’s student success rates.” said San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) CHANCELLOR BRUCE BARON. “The purpose of the Scorecard is to expand on our continued commitment to transparency in the educational process by making our results accessible to the public in a user-friendly format.

 

SBCCD Board names Veteran's Affairs Administrator

The San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) Board of Trustees has named Navy veteran Eupeterson M. Lewis as the District-wide Veteran’s Affairs Administrator at their February 24 meeting. This unique position has been created in partnership with the County of San Bernardino Veteran’s Affairs Office.

Mr. Lewis will serve as a liaison between the County and the two campus Veteran’s offices, helping bring new ideas and resources to veterans enrolled in our two colleges, informing the community about the particular talents and skills of veterans, and addressing issues relevant to the veteran population.
