The Board of Trustees of the San Bernardino Community College District has officially appointed Bruce Baron as the new District Chancellor. Mr. Baron has been serving as the Interim Chancellor since December 2009.
Carleton W. Lockwood, Jr., President of the Board said, “We are fortunate to have such a seasoned educational manager who will bring the steady leadership that is so essential to this District, as we face the serious financial challenges initiated by state budget cutbacks. Chancellor Baron's vision of this Community College District is shared by this Board, and we look forward to supporting him with this vision
As Acting and Interim Chancellor, he demonstrated his advocacy for students. His passion for improving student success makes him the kind of leader we need. The connections he has made with community and education leaders will give him a head start in sustaining and developing partnerships with local business and industry.”
Mr. Baron said, “I am honored to have the confidence of the Board of Trustees to lead the San Bernardino Community College District to the next level. I want to thank those who have worked so collaboratively with me over this interim period. The SBCCD is already a great district but we can be the best district in the state. We face serious challenges, but each challenge presents us with an opportunity to improve our services to students.
We will have expanded opportunities for student success through creative programs and the innovative use of technology; through partnerships and aggressive resource development, and through enhanced communication and expanded consultative relationships with all the shareholders of our district, Our role, as I see it, is to help to rebuild our community and to stimulate economic development and the revitalization of the quality of life we know and love in the Inland Empire.”
Biographical Information on Bruce Baron:
For over thirty years Mr. Baron has provided leadership in higher education both at the university level and the community college level. For eleven years he served in the City University of New York as Director of Finance, Assistant Vice President and Vice President for Administration. He has also served as Vice President for Administrative Services at Los Angeles Southwest College, Victor Valley Community College and Los Angeles City College, before joining the San Bernardino Community College District in July 2009 as Vice Chancellor for Fiscal Services. Since December, 2009, he is serving as the Interim Chancellor.
Bruce holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the City University of New York and a Master’s Degree in Education from City College of New York. He is currently working on his doctorate in Higher Education Leadership.
Additionally, Bruce has extensive training and experience in many aspects of administration including certifications in risk management, human resources management, computer information systems, total quality management, customer service, facilities management and emergency response training. Bruce has certification in many additional areas including Emergency Planning for Executives, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), CONNECTIONS Customer Service Training, as well as continuing education courses in facilities management.
